設計依頼のはじまりは、施主が大阪市内の住み慣れた場所で、仕事場を兼ねた住まいが欲しいと考えておられたところからである。住まう場所を軸に考慮すると都心ということもあり、土地の購入からではなく中古マンション＋リノベーションを選択した。物件の購入前から、内装のご要望やご予算も含め相談を承り、はじめはリノベーションの雰囲気が希望に近い物件を参考にイメージの共有を図っていた。さらに空間自体に施主ご夫妻ならではの個性、感性、方向性を取り入れたい。どんな趣味を持ち、どんな暮らしを送っているのか。新しい住まいでどんな暮らしを叶えたいか。何が好きで、好きの感覚はどこから生まれてくるのか。その様なことを徐々に具体的に共有していく流れになった。

旅行が好き。過去に観た映画の景色が忘れられず訪れた旅先、お気に入りのホテル。地中海の島のゆるい雰囲気。スペインのバルセロナ・イビザ。イタリアのタオルミーナ・プローチダ。例えば、建築ではガウディのコロニア・グエル教会が印象に残っている。また趣味のレコードもたくさんある。このリノベーション空間にイメージしたのは、多国籍で無国籍、エキゾチックでトロピカルなサウンド。例えばミュージシャンは全体的には細野晴臣。朝は佐藤博、昼はLeonardo Marques、夕方は吉田美奈子、夜はEddie Chacoなどと1日のシーンに合わせてセレクトする。暮らしの場であり、クリエイティブな仕事の場でもある。情景に合わせたBGMも生活の大切な要素のひとつである。想い描く生活空間はシンプルだが、どこか人の手を感じるような温もりが欲しい。想い出す心地よさはやはり旅先の記憶。光、風、緑。地中海の気候や広がる海の風景。漆喰壁や随所に木を使ったつくり。出会う人、もの、出来事に抱く好奇心。個性が集まる多国籍感、心地よい距離感。施主ご夫妻の「好き」について聞かせていただくと、総じるキーワードとして「有機的」と「ゆるさ」という言葉にたどり着いた。そこから、用途で部屋の区画を分けるのではなく、出入りする人たちや使い方がフレキシブルに変化する、ひとつの大きな空間がイメージできた。

具体的な要素としては、無垢の床材、趣味のレコードを含む収納力、空調の快適性、漆喰の壁、土間（マンションの室内に２台の自転車を置く）を設けること。他にも旅先の雰囲気のアーチのデザインを取り入れる。絵画やギターを飾りたい。食にこだわりたいなどがあった。

今回の設計にあたり、arbol の得意とする「シンプル≒無機的」とは一見対角線上に見える「有機的」というキーワードをどう表現するか思考した。また、分譲マンションという決まった箱の中では、構造体で取り拭えない「柱」と「梁」の存在があり制限がかかる。その中で開放感を如何に感じられるかが課題となった。空間のコンセプトとしては、宇宙空間に記憶を辿るボリュームが浮遊するイメージをした。宇宙空間の立体的な四方八方から有機的な個性を持つ大小様々な生命体の様なボリュームが浮遊している。ボックス型のワークスペースやテーブルもそのひとつである。地球上の有機物の形のように自然環境と調和し均等が保たれるよう意識し、シンプルなライン、規則性の中にずらしたリズムを生むことで、自然界に存在する対照性とゆるさ、奇妙さや面白さを表現した。

プランの全体構成は、ドアを開けると通り土間のようなスペースがあり玄関ホールを兼ねている。幅広の廊下は地中海の街の路地を彷彿とさせる。その奥に広場の様なリビング、ダイニングキッチン、さらに奥にバルコニーの外へと続く景色が広がっている。またこの廊下を中心に、家族の寝室、ユーティリティへの動線となっている。目を惹くのはアーチのデザインと不思議な躍動感の天井のボリューム。ボリュームは用途を持ちつつ、躯体の柱や梁、壁の存在感を消すように配慮する事を心がけている。アールの形状を共通デザインとして取り入れ、有機的なゆるさをつくり出している。横に広いアーチの開口部、低めの天井はどっしりとした安定感と落ち着きを放っている。柱の角は丸みを持たせることで柱そのものの存在を隠し、空間から空間へつながるスムーズな印象を与えている。天井のボリュームも梁を隠し、空間用途の境目を表す役割を担っている。壁と天井を同じ漆喰で仕上げ、連続性を生んでいる。オフホワイトの壁、グレイッシュな壁と天井。床は無垢材で、ダイニングの一部にもグレーの色を配色した。バルコニーへの建具は木製の二重サッシとし、見た目にも機能的にも考慮している。皆が集まるダイニングには、使い勝手の良いビッグテーブルを造作した。時間軸で多目的にも活用する。朝は家族４人で朝食。後ろのワークスペースでは仕事をし、ビッグテーブルもそれぞれが自身の仕事をする場所となる。自由なタイミングで昼食を取る。夜は友人知人が集まり、持ち寄った料理やお酒で団欒の時間を過ごす。笑い合い、語り合い、仄暗い空間でゆったりと音楽に身をまかせる。壁面に飾られた絵画、レコード、旅先で見つけた小物など話に花が咲く。

室内空調については、一般住宅と同じで、通常マンションも３種換気が主流だが、外気の不純物を除去するフィルターを介した第2種換気を採用し、住宅の隅々までクリーンな空気の循環が生まれるよう計画した。

照明は空間における器具の存在をおさえこんだグレアレスダウンライトを使用し、「光と影」をつくりだした。「影」は空間を立体的に演出し、対比となる「光」を強調する効果がある。グレアレスダウンライトから放たれた集光した光は、床材の木目や節の素材を強調し、ダイニングチェアの背板や、籐で編んだ座面の美しい影を床に映し出す。床や家具に光が反射すると、光の重心は天井から床付近にさがっていく。光を低重心におさえた空間は、くつろぎや、やすらぎなど人の心理にも影響を与える。

インテリアグリーンは地中海沿いの雰囲気を思わせるエキゾチックな雰囲気の植物を揃えた。葉の美しさと育てやすさを重視し、鉢は漆喰の壁に合うもの、モダンだが、ほっこりとした抜け感のあるデザインを選んでいる。多趣味な施主に合わせて柄物やシンプルな鉢をミックスし、植物＋鉢でリズム感を出している。

好きを詰め込んだ空間に集う人々、共に過ごし重ねる記憶、進化し続ける好奇心。

この自由な心地良い空間で、語らい、育ち、家族・仲間と共に皆で暮らしと未来をつくっていかれることを願う。

Exotic renovation that weaves memories.

The design request originated from the client wanting to live in a familiar place in Osaka City that could also serve as a workplace. Considering that the location is in the city center, I chose an existing apartment coupled with a renovation rather than buying land. Before purchasing the property, we received consultations including requests for interior decoration and budgets, and at first, we tried to share images of renovated properties with similar atmospheres to the desired one. Furthermore, I wished to incorporate the personality, sensitivity and direction unique to the client and their partner into the space itself. What kind of hobbies do you have and what kind of life do you have? What kind of life do you want to achieve in your new home? What do you like and where does your feeling of love come from? Gradually, we began to share such things in concrete terms.

I like traveling. A favorite hotel, a destination I visited, scenery of the movies I watched in the past. The relaxed atmosphere of a Mediterranean island. Barcelona, Ibiza, Spain. Taormina Procida of Italy. The architecture of Gaudi’s Colonia Guell Church is impressive. As well as record collection. This renovation space has a multi-national, stateless, exotic and tropical sound. For example, the musician is Haruomi Hosono overall. The selection of music is based on the scene of the day; Hiroshi Sato in the morning, Leonardo Marques in the daytime, Minako Yoshida in the evening, Eddie Chaco at night, etc. It is a place to live and to work creatively. BGM that matches the scene is also one of the important elements of life. The living space I envision is simple, but I want it to be warm enough to feel the hands of others. The comfort that I remember is the memory of my journey. The light, wind, greenery. The climate of the Mediterranean and the scenery of the sea. The space is made of plaster walls and wood everywhere. The curiosity about the people, things and events experienced. A multinational feeling where individuality gathers and a comfortable sense of distance. When I asked the couple about their “likes”, they came up with the general keywords “organic” and “relaxed”. From there, I could imagine one big space where people come and go, and its use can change flexibly, instead of dividing the room according to purpose.

Specific desired elements included solid flooring, storage capacity for hobby records, air-conditioning for comfort, plastered walls and doma (two bicycles are placed inside the apartment). The incorporation of archways gives the atmosphere of travel. Decoration would be with paintings and guitars. As well as this there was to be a focus on food.

In designing this time, I thought about how to express the keyword “organic”, which seems at first glance to be “simple ≒ inorganic”, which arbol is good at. In addition, there are pillars and beams that cannot be removed from the fixed volume of the condominium, which imposes restrictions. The challenge became how to express a sense of openness. As a concept of space, I imagined that the volume that traces the memories is floating in outer space. Volumes of various sizes, large and small, living organisms with organic characteristics are floating in the three-dimensional directions of outer space. Box-shaped workspaces and tables are one of them. Conscious of being in harmony with the natural environment and keeping the same uniformity as the shape of organic matter on earth, while expressing the contrast, looseness, strangeness and interest that exist in the natural world, simple lines and staggered rhythms in the regularity were produced.

The overall structure of the plan is that when one opens the door, there is a space like a dirt floor, which doubles as an entrance hall. The wide corridors are reminiscent of the alleys of a Mediterranean city. In the back, there is a plaza-like living room, a dining area and kitchen, and behind that, a view leading to the outside balcony. In addition, this corridor is the central circulation space to the family bedroom and utilities. What catches the eye is the design of the arch and the volume of the ceiling with a mysterious dynamism. While the volume has purpose, the presence of pillars, beams and walls are eliminated. The shape of radial corners is adopted as a common design feature to create organic looseness. The wide arches on the sides and the low ceilings give the hall a solid, stable and calm atmosphere. The rounded corners of the columns hide the existence of the columns themselves, giving a smooth connection between spaces. The volume of the ceiling also hides the beam and plays a role in indicating the boundaries of different uses of space. The walls and ceiling are finished with the same plaster, creating continuity, cream yellow walls, gray walls and ceilings. The floor is solid wood, and part of the dining room is colored gray. The fittings to the balcony are wooden double sashes which satisfy both functional and visual factors. For the dining room where everyone would be gathered, we created a large table that is easy to use, it also has multiple uses depending on the time. In the morning, breakfast for 4 family members, work can be carried out on the large table where there is space to do so, or at the back, one can have lunch at any time, at night friends and acquaintances can get together and enjoy a good time with food and drinks at the table. They laugh, talk, relax and play music in a darkened atmosphere. Paintings, records and small items found while traveling are in full bloom throughout the space.

For indoor air conditioning, Type 3 is used in general housing, and Type 3 is also mainstream for apartment buildings, however, Type 2 ventilation with a filter which removes impurities from the outside air was adopted in order to create clean air circulation to every corner of the house.

For lighting, we used glare-less downlights which suppressed the presence of fixtures in the space, creating “light and shadow”. The “shadow” has the effect of creating a three-dimensional space and emphasizes the contrasting “light”. The light emitted from the downlights highlights the wood grain and knot textures of the flooring and the beautiful shadows of the backrests and woven rattan seat surfaces of the dining chairs is projected onto the floor. When light is reflected on the floor or furniture, the center of gravity of the light drops from the ceiling to the vicinity of the floor; space where the light is at a low center of gravity can promote human psychological responses such as relaxation.

The interior vegetation has exotic plants that evoke the atmosphere found around the Mediterranean Sea. The beauty of the leaves and the ease of cultivation are emphasized, the pots are designed to fit the plastered walls, the design is modern but has a sense of looseness or shrewdness about it. The patterned and simple pots are mixed according to the clients who have many hobbies, and the plants along with the pots give a sense of rhythm.

People gather in a space packed with their love, interests, memories spent together, and curiosity that continues to evolve.

I hope that in this free and comfortable space, the users can talk, grow and create a life and future together with family and friends.
