colissimo

　丹波篠山、立杭焼の窯元が多く集まるエリアに近い「今田（こんだ）」。この地に1943年に建てられた小さな木造２階建ての郵便局舎があった。1990年に新局舎に業務移転してから約20年間、年月とともに朽ちるがままになっていたものだ。ここに新しい光と命を吹き込んだのがギャラリー・カフェ「colissimo」だ。
　場所の記憶を引き継ぐため、リノベーションにあたってはできるだけ手を加えないことにした。白いペンキの剥げた外観や、郵便局時代の面影の残るカウンターや懐かしいマークなどをそのままに残している。
　廃墟同然だった1階住居棟と2階は手を入れる必要があったため、アンティークのドアやスイッチをバランスよく配置した。和と洋、新と旧が交じり合って織りなす「懐かしくて新しい」空間が主張しすぎない静かな世界観を創り出す。あえて残した余白が空間にゆとりをもたらす。ていねいに改修したディティールの積み重ねによって、独特の心地よさが生まれる。
　大量生産・消費されていくものではなく、100年先までも愛され残っていく「もの」や「こと」を届けたい。この場所だからこそ伝わるものを意識して改修した。

Renovation of 70-year-old Wooden Post Office at Sasayama Tamba
We always had a question concerning Japanese living culture that kept repeating “scrap & build” method just in 30 years. He admired the concept of “Sasayama” that an abandoned old good place must be reborn for villagers’ livings and hearts, and their memories had to be passed on to the future. This was the reason he undertook the task of renovation design and management of the site. The building was extremely old, but to keep that old great taste alive, he decided to preserve the exterior which white colored paint came off in places, the office counter which reminded us of the old post office, some of the original designs, and the semi-European architecture style. A couple of the parts, however, had to be repaired. To have a good balance of the mixture of the old and the new styles, he used French style antique doors and switches in substitute for them. That created an innovative serene world. This exclusive work is the combination of preserving the place which gives us comforts for our hearts, and the renovated spaces which create a comfortable place for our livings.
